Creating thislight fixture for The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach the height of the ceiling was the starting point. Scale is one of important initial data of the project, thus for the inspirational animal I have chosen a whale. Whales are the biggest animals in the world, at the same time they are so elegant and gentle. Their elegancy inspired me and guided to create flooding organic shape, which reflects whale’s movement in the natural environment. Gracefulness is represented in the smooth and curved lines, which create therhythm by wrapping around the light itself and repeating thewavy pattern. Strength is represented by zinc plated machine screws, which keeps the whole structure together.

POWER & ELEGANCE
Inspiration
Planks of woods represent elegance and grace and screws – power.
Dragon Fly
Concept
To create 3D model for this project I have chosen dragon fly as an inspiration. The structure of its body is very mechanical and weightless, sophisticated and simple, which I found very charming in its nature. It dictated me all the forms, which I just needed to translate into graphics, more simple shapes and stylize it. For the base was taken the tail, which has diamond outline. The legs was transformed into the zigzag lines. And the most impressive part was the plainer component, inspired by the finest lines of the dragons fly’s wings. And that came out the most noticeable part of the model.
