Creating this light fixture for The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach I couldn’t ignore the ceiling hуight of the building. The scale one of the most important starting point for designers, thus for the inspirational animal I have chosen is a whale. Whales are the biggest animals in the world, at the same time they are so elegant and gentle. Their elegancy inspired me and guided to create flooding organic shape, which reflects whale’s movement in the natural environment. Gracefulness is represented in the smooth and curved lines, which create the rhythm by warping around the light fixture and repeating the wavy pattern. Strength is represented by zinc plated machine screws, which keeps the whole structure together.

Dragon Fly

To create 3D model for this project I choose a dragon fly as an inspirational image. The structure of its body shape is very mechanical and elegant, sophisticated and simple at the same time, which I found very charming in its nature. It dictated me all the forms I just needed to translate them into graphic and more simple shapes and stylized it. For the base I took the tail and noticed that it has a diamond shape in a way and I tried to recreate that shape. The legs I transformed into the zigzag lines. And the most impressive part for me was to create the plainer component, of which I was inspired by the finest lines of the dragons fly’s wings And that came out the most noticeable part of the model.
